State-level convention on women empowerment held in Patna


Women's Cell of ruling Janata Dal (United) organised a state-level convention on women empowerment on the occasion of International Women's Day in Patna on March 8, 2011. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the meeting. JD(U) state president Vashishta Narayan Singh presided over the meeting.

Addressing the meeting Nitish Kumar advocated reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and the state assemblies in order to politically empower them.

“There shall be reservation for the women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies in order to enable them to contribute in the decision-making process,” he said.

He said his government had given 50 per cent reservation to the women in the local bodies.
