World Bank president evaluates the progress of Dolphin Conservation Project

Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh and World Bank President Robert B Zoellick evaluated the progress in the conservation of Gangetic dolphin, an endangered species, at Gandhi Ghat in river Ganga in Patna on January 12, 2011.

The Action Plan for the Conservation of the Gangetic dolphin has been prepared under the auspices of Union Government's National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA) to address the problem of pollution in the Ganga. NGRBA is also funded by the World Bank.

Later talking to reporters Jairam Ramesh said Rs 3000 crore would be spent for setting up sewage treatment plants in 19 Bihar towns in the next five to six years under (NGRBA).
